Namana Datta is a rising junior at Monroe Township High School, where he is an active member of the school marching band where he plays snare drum and the percussion ensemble. A dedicated student of rhythm, Namana began learning the Mridangam at the age of 7 under the tutelage of Vidwan Sri T.S. Nandakumar Garu. Under his guru’s guidance, Namana developed a deep understanding of the Mridangam’s role in both accompaniment and solo performance, mastering the intricate techniques and nuances of this classical South Indian percussion art form. Namana completed his Mridangam Arangetram in 2022 accompanying Padma Shri A. Kanyakumari Garu and also accompanied Avadhoota Datta Peetham Asthana Vidwan, Nada Nidhi Shri Ayyagari Syamasundaram Garu. Namana regularly accompanies vocalists and instrumentalists across the tri-state area, bringing sensitivity and precision to his performances. He balances his passion for Carnatic music with his school commitments, participating actively in musical ensembles and cultural events. His dual involvement in both Western and Indian classical traditions highlights his versatility as a percussionist and his dedication to musical excellence.
